Introductory Level 1

The Introductory Level 1 covers six hours of wine curriculum, beginning with significant eras in the history of California wine, including the Mission era, post-Gold Rush, Prohibition, and modern times. Level 1 candidates will:<br><br>- Learn how California's geography, the Pacific Ocean and mountain ranges affect viticulture and wine styles.<br>- Acquire fundamental knowledge of grape-growing practices and the specifics of viticulture compared to other agriculture, including the ability to identify and describe the important grape varieties grown in California.<br>- Receive an introduction to the American Viticultural Area (AVA) system, including the world-famous AVAs of Napa Valley, Sonoma County and Santa Barbara County.<br>- Explore California's iconic wineries, such as Ridge Vineyards, Frog’s Leap Winery and Robert Mondavi Winery.<br>- Learn about the key statistics for California wine in global production, consumption and exports.

Intermediate Level 2

The Intermediate Level 2 course builds on Level 1 with 20 hours of curriculum and an additional tasting component. For theory, students will cover important events in California's wine history timeline and identify key figures who helped shape the state’s wine industry, as well as:<br><br>- Learn about important geographical factors in major California regions such as rivers, dry creeks and important mountain ranges including the Coastal Range, Mayacamas Mountains, the Vaca Range and Santa Cruz Mountains.<br>- Take a deeper look at seven of California’s key grape varieties by exploring the growing regions where they are grown and their distinctive taste profiles.<br>- Understand the vine's annual life cycle and related terms, including flowering, bud break, véraison, trellising, pruning, green harvest, harvest timing, and more.<br>- Learn winemaking fundamentals and explore cooperage variations (French vs. American vs. other European oak) and how oak selection affects wine style.<br>- Delve deeper into historic AVAs in Lodi and the Sacramento Delta, Mendocino County, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo County, Monterey County and Santa Cruz Mountains.

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines ONLINE

You'll gain knowledge of the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce. <br>It covers the same syllabus as the classroom course, but through a supported Online Classroom which allows you to study alongside your peers under the guidance of a dedicated educator. <br>You will be asked to share your learning experience with the rest of the course group, looking at what wine labels tell you about the contents of the bottle and sharing tasting notes. Tasting is an essential part of studying for this course.

WSET Level 3 Award in Wines OFFLINE ENGLISH

This course will develop to a high-level your ability to describe wine accurately, and account in detail for the style, quality and price of wines. WSET Level 3 Award in Wines ONLINE ENGLISH

The course is based around a 9-week structured online programme with a recommendation of 10 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook.<br><br>The course follows a weekly structure, but it allows the student to work ahead or catch up on the activities and forums. There are no set times to log into the course as there are no live chats or webinars. <br><br>Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.

WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits ONLINE

The course covers the main categories of spirits and liqueurs as well as the influences of production methods on the different styles available in each category and exploring the use of spirits in cocktails. <br><br>Course is supported with Online Classroom which allows you to study alongside your peers under the guidance of a dedicated educator. <br><br>You will be asked to share your learning experience with the rest of the course group, looking at the key spirit types and sharing tasting notes. Tasting is an essential part of studying for this course, and you will need to taste a minimum of 8 spirits.<br>
